About Sacred Hills

Our school is named atier a nearby evergreen hill which is highly regarded among the host community as such a sacred hill because of its historical importance from time memorial.
The Kipsigis community has named it Tulwoop Psigiis – meaning a place of fertility to mankind denoting its sacred position amongst them and across the entire Kalenjin land. It is a magnificent evergreen hillock within whose innocent serenity lays the history of the Kalenjiin people since the seventeenth century.
This hill is also known by many names all of which point to the important role it played in right of passage ceremonies of boys to men in which the community has placed great emphasis to this day.
It was given all these names to indicate its importance to the Kalenjiin community. The hill derived its various names because this is where boys were circumcised and blessed to “go out and give birth to many offspring”.
It’s the hill where the first Maina age group was circumcised around the 1750s according to oral history.

Sacred Hill Girls High School is more than just a school. It is a community of girls who are passionate about learning, growth, and development. Our school is named atier a hill with a historical connotation, which represents our deep roots in our community. We have over 1000 students and about 100 dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff, all working together to make this school the best in the region. We have made tremendous strides in terms of infrastructure development and academic performance, and I applaud our Senior Principal Mrs. Mildred Masibo, and the school management team for their dedication and hard work. We have put up modern administration block, two dormitories, a dispensary with a sick bay and matron house, ablution block of 12 doors and flashable, a boiler with two tanks capacity of 1500 litres each, a bakery serving the whole school, five staff houses, several classrooms, a beau- tiful gate and many other developments since we took over as the Board of Management.
